          Anchoring System

Madico’s Wet Glaze anchoring system helps increase the performance of daylight, applied by transferring the energy from an impact to the entire opening.

          Wet Glaze

In the event of glass breakage, the Wet Glaze Anchoring System, when combined with Madico Safety window films, is designed to absorb and disburse the energy that the filmed glass is subjected to, and transfer the reduced load over the entire glazed opening. By absorbing and distributing the load, the system is designed to retain the filmed glass in the opening, and thus reduce the probability of glass fragments and debris from entering the room.

The Wet Glaze system is economically viable in retrofit applications, and is built around a triangular sealant joint connecting the film to the supporting framing members. To achieve acceptable performance, a very high-performance sealant must be used. We recommend Dow Corning® 995 Silicone Structural Adhesive or GE SCS2000 SilPruf™ Sealant.

          Madico View Control Films

          1. Improved privacy: Safety and security window films can also improve privacy by making it more difficult for people to see inside the building. This can be particularly beneficial for glass located in busy or high-traffic areas.

          2. Controlled daytime view: View Control film systems can enable the person within the building to see out while limiting or even preventing the person outside the building from seeing in.  These systems are often called “one-way” or “dual-reflective”.

Window Safety & Security Film Benefits

          -Stands up to Mother Nature

Safety & security films are engineered so glass is shatter-resistant against high-powered winds and storms, preventing water and wind-borne debris from entering.

          -Reduces Hazards from Explosions

Broken glass is one of the main causes of death or injury during an explosion. Window security films reduce these hazards by keeping shattered glass together.

          -Leaves Criminals Empty Handed

By holding shattered glass together, our window security laminate films deter and slow smash-and-grabbers, because they can’t get in quickly.  Also, looters can be prevented from entering.

          -Is Cost Effective Against Vandalism

Our graffiti-free film is an economic solution to defaced windows and glass, allowing you to easily replace the film instead of the glass.

          -Provides Solar Protection

Our window safety films block up to 99% of the sun’s UV rays, which can lead to premature aging of the skin and even skin cancer.  Summertime heat and glare are dramatically decreased.

          Natural Disasters and Accidents

          Window Breakage

Flying debris during major storms like hurricanes and tornadoes is one of the leading causes of death and injury, according to the National Weather Service. Potential for building damage and human injury significantly increases when hurricane and tornado-force winds pick up loose debris and send it flying.

Common debris picked up by winds during severe storms may include:

          • Signs
          • Lawn furniture
          • Trees
          • Roofing and siding material from nearby buildings
          • Loose plywood
          • Unsecured small objects

During a storm, your home or business’s windows are the most susceptible to the potential damage of debris. When they’re not properly secured, flying objects can crash through windows and threaten the safety of occupants inside.

          Loose Shards of Glass

If rogue debris enters through your windows, another threat emerges — shattered glass. A single square foot of glass can produce up to 200 fragments, and during a storm with high winds, they can travel several feet in all directions at a high velocity. Loose shards of glass are incredibly dangerous, which is why it’s crucial to stay away from windows during hurricanes and tornadoes.

          Overall Occupant Safety

When the integrity of your home or business’s windows is threatened during a destructive storm, occupant safety is at risk. The possibility of severe injury can come from flying debris unexpectedly crashing through a window or the shattered remnants of your window afterward. While a broken window from a storm is upsetting, the safety of your family or employees is of the utmost importance, making hurricane or tornado safety key.

          School Safety

In the wake of recent school attacks, there is a growing awareness of the need for additional school safety measures. In fact, a poll found that 84% of Americans believe that schools need to do more to improve security.

Safety and Security films, like the SafetyShield SS800 and SS1500, can significantly slow down forced entry, often allowing enough time for those inside to find a safe place, and for First-Responders to arrive. SafetyShield 1500 is one of only two safety films that have fully passed UL 972 certification testing. This standard focuses on evaluating the performance and resistance of glazing materials against forced entry attempts, such as physical attacks or break-in attempts.

          Are window films ballistic resistant?

After recent shootings in public places, including schools, building managers and officials are now often considering the use of safety film as an additional layer on the existing glass to upgrade windows and make them resistant to bullets. It’s important to recommend the right solution in such situations, to ensure that students and the public are adequately protected; and that the company providing the solution shares relevant test data.

Window film is also a cost-effective way to improve school safety. There are numerous grants and funds available to help schools pay for this type of security. For example, Virginia, Texas, Missouri, and a number of other states have recently issued grants that may be used, in part, for intrusion mitigation and perimeter security. Campus Safety Magazine tracks the news of available grants here.

          -Perimeter Protection

-These security film systems can make windows more difficult to break and remain in place following a break, giving those inside time to react or seek a safe location.

          -Vision control

-Safety and security window films can also improve privacy, by making it more difficult for people to see inside the building during the daytime. This can be particularly beneficial for glass located in busy or high-traffic areas.

          -Energy Savings

-Safety and security window films can also help schools save on energy costs, by reducing the amount of heat that enters or escapes the building. This can be particularly beneficial in areas with extreme temperatures.

          -Cost Effective

-Safety and security window film systems are cost-effective solutions for schools that need to upgrade their perimeter security measures. Installing these security film systems is typically more affordable and less disruptive than replacing existing windows with those of similar performance capabilities.

3 Ways Security Film Can Help Protect Your Windows

Most homeowners and business owners neglect window and sliding glass door security, which leads to opportunities for intruders attempting to gain access to a building. Installing window security film is an excellent way to protect your home from intruders by reducing visibility inside and strengthening the window against impact, especially on the ground floor.

          1. Reduces Visibility of Valuables Inside Your Home or Business

Uncovered doors and windows provide anyone on the outside with a view of the valuables kept inside. Burglars have more incentive to enter a building or home that they know has items worth stealing.  For this reason, you should make it a challenge for anyone to see into your house. Increase your privacy and security with tinted window films. Window films let light in while making it harder for thieves to scope out your possessions.

          2. Increases Resistance for Ground Floor Access

Many houses, apartments and buildings have at least one window on the ground floor. Any window within reach can quickly become a target for entry.  Madico® security films make it significantly more difficult for an intruder to compromise a window on the ground floor. Our window films enforce shatter-resistant technology to help create resistance against intruders and severe weather.

          3. Strengthens the Most Fragile Area of Your Building’s Exterior

Glass is a clear, elegant and highly fragile material. For many types of glass, a brick or bat is all you need to compromise the window, and provide unimpeded entry for an intruder. Security film bolsters the defense of this vulnerable part of your building’s exterior by holding the broken glass together and delaying entry.

Get Peace of Mind With Madico Security Film

Protecting your home or business’s weak spots, like your windows, is crucial when it comes to preventing break-ins. Madico security window film can increase privacy in your home with tinted film, and helps hold shattered glass together, making it harder for intruders to break in. In addition to protecting your windows from unwanted visitors, Madico window film also blocks 99% of harmful ultraviolet rays, which protects your skin and keeps out the heat and glare from the sun.

Madico offers a range of safety and security films for windows that offer both intrusion deterrence and aesthetic appeal. For protection against smash-and-grabbers, we recommend our anti-intrusion films. When you’ve found the film that meets the needs of your home or business, please reach out to the pros at IMS Printing & Signs for  installation. Also, ask about our Manufacturer’s Warranty in North America!

When a threat is severe, it requires a film product that is manufactured to meet the strictest codes, and has the highest levels of testing and accreditation. SafetyShield® film products are available in a range of thicknesses to meet every unique threat level. Solar control options are also available to provide complete protection for occupants. SafetyShield films are sold and installed through certified SafetyShield Premier Partners who will be able to suggest the best film and attachment system to meet your specific threat.

          SafetyShield Anchoring Systems

There are four different patented and proprietary Anchoring Restraint System solutions available – each with its own level of performance. Our highly-trained Premier Partners will work with you to select the appropriate Anchoring Restraint System, in conjunction with the application of our safety film, to meet your specific criteria and threat concerns.

          FrameGard

The FrameGard Anchoring System, when used in conjunction with SafetyShield film, has been specifically engineered to keep treated glass within the frame when an incident occurs. It is a “mechanical” attachment system that clamps the filmed glass to the window frame. This system improves and extends the principle of edge battening, by incorporating a specific movement zone (patent applies), which allows the film to move under the applied load without putting excessive force on the fixings and frame. The benefit of FrameGard is that it allows engineers and installers to precisely determine torque settings for each individual installation, creating a truly custom solution.

          GullWing

The GullWing Anchoring System, when combined with Madico SafetyShield window film, is designed to absorb and disperse the energy that the filmed glass is subjected to and transfer the reduced load over the entire glazed opening. By absorbing and distributing the load, the system is designed to retain the filmed glass in the opening, and thus reduce the probability of glass fragments and debris from entering the room.

          Wet Glaze

In the event of glass breakage, the Wet Glaze Anchoring System, when combined with SafetyShield window film, is designed to absorb and disburse the energy to which the filmed glass is subjected; and transfer the reduced load over the entire glazed opening.

We recommend Dow Corning® 995 Silicone Structural Adhesive. Wet Glaze Installation Instructions & Data Sheet.

          LifeLine

The LifeLine Anchoring System is based on a simple principle, “restraint”. This system is one of the most effective ways to mitigate injury and reduce property damage in the event of a catastrophic blast. The LifeLine System works in conjunction with a standard application of SafetyShield film. The system’s energy-absorbing cords slow down and catch the filmed glass, often returning it to the direction in which it came. This straightforward system has been blast-tested up to 10 psi. Due to its somewhat industrial appearance, LifeLine is primarily used in factory or manufacturing applications.

          Anti-Graffiti

Madico Graffiti Free films act as a sacrificial barrier to help control vandalism and provide a cost-effective alternative to replacing damaged glazing. Graffiti Free window films are easily installed and replaced so your glass will always look its best.

Many common applications of Madico Anti-Graffiti films include:

          • Retail storefronts: Vandalism can create a harmful image for your establishment. With our Anti-Graffiti window films, you can maintain your reputation by quickly removing paint from your storefront.

          • Vending machines: Vending machines are easily accessible to the public, making them prime targets for vandalism. With Graffiti Free films, you can avoid costly glass replacements.
          • Restroom mirrors: Restrooms are common locations for destruction. Luckily, you can prevent damage to your mirrors with Anti-Graffiti films.
          • Museums: Graffiti Free window films are ideal for shielding glass art display cases from damage.

Graffiti Free is optically clear and distortion-free and can be used on the interior or exterior surface of glass or other smooth surfaces. The film is removable for easy replacement without leaving residue, improving turnaround time for maintenance.

When you use Graffiti Free film for your windows, you’ll experience these benefits:

          Blast Mitigation

          Testing

According to the International Window Film Association (IWFA), “Safety/security window films applied to glass are tested to the same break safe standards required of tempered glass, heat-strengthened glass, and laminated glass.”

Madico’s SafetyShield films have been extensively tested by independent testing facilities and meet Safety Glazing criteria as defined by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Council (CPSC) and Underwriters Laboratories. As a manufacturer, our SafetyShield solutions have been subjected to both high explosive charges, as well as shock tube blast mitigations to meet or surpass GSA and ISO blast criteria. Where most manufacturers test for minimum code requirements, Madico’s films have always met or exceeded the requirements of more U.S. and international standards for safety & security.
